Position in Dance Science: Associate Professor

POSITION: Associate Professor, Department of Dance, full-time tenure track position. SC#01200.

SALARY AND RANK: Commensurate with experience. The Associate Professor salary range begins at $66,100.00.

STARTING DATE: July 1, 2008

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS: M.S. or Ph.D. in anatomical sciences, kinesiology, physical therapy, or related field, and/or an M.F.A. in Dance. University teaching experience and certification in in somatic-based approaches or body therapies is desirable. The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven or potential publication record in the area of dance science. Professional activity as a choreographer and/or performer may also be considered.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Teach courses in Anatomy, Kinesiology, and Injury Prevention. Teach one or more of the following: choreography, technique, pedagogy, or create and teach additional dance science curriculum. Serve as liaison with Sports Medicine Clinic. Monitor dance student health and injuries. Advise students; direct undergraduate and graduate student thesis projects, and serve on a rotating basis as an advisor for departmental productions. Participate in departmental administration and decision-making. Serve on school and university committees.

ABOUT THE UC IRVINE DANCE DEPARTMENT: The UCI Department of Dance enrolls 200 undergraduate dance majors and 22 graduate students in B.A., B.F.A., or M.F.A programs in Dance. The department has been recognized as one of the nation’s outstanding dance programs, and former UCI students have danced with many professional dance companies and national tours, and have gone on to successful careers as dance scholars. The department has six dance studios, a dedicated motion capture studio, performs in three theatres, and participates regularly in internet-based, telematic, multi-institution, collaborative projects. The UCI Claire Trevor School of the Arts offers graduate and undergraduate degrees in Dance, Drama, Music, and Studio Art.
