UCI Department of Dance presents Dance Visions 2008:

Thur.-Sat., Feb. 7-9, 8 pm

Featuring captivating premieres by Jodie Gates, Molly Lynch, Loretta Livingston, David Allan, Donald McKayle and Lisa Naugle. Program highlights include internationally acclaimed guest artist Rennie Harris, presenting hip-hop choreography performed by fifteen dancers; media by UCI faculty member John Crawford.

Donald McKayle premieres "Syncopated Gambol" danced by the UCI Etude Ensemble, featuring big band music, “April in Paris,” “When It’s Sleepy Time Down South,” and “In the Mood” arranged and orchestrated for the Great American Music Ensemble by Doug Richards.

David Allan unveils “Homage,” inspired by William Gillespie, an all-male duet, set to original music by Alan Terricciano, “Variations on a Purcell Air,” performed on-stage by Haroutune Bedelian, violin.

Loretta Livingston premieres a collaborative choreography with a distinguished guest artist from Seoul, South Korea, Dr. Sam-Jin Kim. “The Vacant House” is inspired by selected short stories and poetry by Korean and American women writers.

Also debuting are world premieres from dance faculty Molly Lynch (“Sea Scape”), Jodie Gates (“Potentially Hazardous”) and Lisa Naugle (“Raw, Without Blinders”), as well as new work from the modern, ballet and jazz repertoire.
