Diane Diefenderfer

Lecturer

Ballet, Pilates

Diane Diefenderfer was a member of the Frankfurt Ballet under the direction of Alonso Cata and later Kent Stowell and Francia Russell. She was a guest with the Eglevsky Ballet and the New Jersey Ballet before going on to join the Los Angeles Ballet as a soloist, under the direction of John Clifford. Diane has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia dancing leading roles in many Balanchine ballets as well as the classics. Diane's early training was with the Harkness Ballet and at the American Ballet Theatre School. She credits Wilhelm Burmann with influencing her teaching style.

A dance-related injury in 1978 first led Diane to discover the Pilates Method at the Ron Fletcher Studio in Los Angeles where she spent the next 8 years studying and teaching Pilates while continuing to dance. In 1987, Diane opened Studio du Corps, The Pilates Center of Orange County, and in 1988 created the Pilates Program for the University of California, Irvine. The work Diane teaches today, while remaining faithful to the original concepts of Joseph Pilates, has evolved from years spent studying with Ron Fletcher, as a disciple of Joseph Pilates as well as Romana Kryzanowska of the Pilates Studio, New York. Diane is certified in the Pilates Method and has been given a Master Teacher certification by Ron Fletcher. Diane gives lectures and Master Classes nationwide and is considered one of the foremost teachers in her field. She directs the Teacher Training Program at Studio du Corps.
