On behalf of the dance faculty let me welcome you to dance at UCI. With world-class scholars and artists, the UCI dance program offers an array of dynamic programs and professional training that distinguishes us as one of the most highly competitive dance programs in the country. Our training in modern, jazz and ballet prepares the students for rigorous careers as performers, teachers and choreographers.
Students from our program have gone on to dance with Momix, Hubbard Street, Mark Morris, Nashville Ballet and Oberlin Dance Collective, while others are on the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth, Texas Christian University and Kent State. Dancers at UCI receive a well-rounded education, with nationally known scholars guiding their studies in dance history, Laban notation, digital technology and critical theory in dance. Recently we built three new dance studios, bringing our department total to 6 studios plus a state of the art motion capture studio.
For our undergraduate students, opportunities abound to perform in graduate and faculty choreography concerts, as well as to choreograph and perform in our undergraduate concert. Students can audition for Donald McKayle's Etude Ensemble, Bob Boross's Jazz Ensemble or gain an opportunity to study in Paris with our exchange program with the Paris Conservatoire. Our academics are rigorous and deeply grounded.
