to Project Overview
I
began with dancer(s) performing my choreography and
catpuring the phrases with a digital camera (in this
case a Sony PC1). Here
a hand-held camera work allows me to put video in service
of choreography; wrapping around the dancers and exploring
different types of reference shot (which will be used
in later work for interactive performances); rethinking
and creating additional (emotional) imagery.
We work in a blue screen room, because later the dancer
on screen will be removed from this environmment and
placed in a virtual world created from computer graphics,
or superimposed into another environment also taken
with a video camera. Because human flesh does not have
blue tones in it, computer software can recognize the
differences so we assign the computer to look for the
edge between human form and the surrounding environment
and it will remove the blue automatically. Also see
the Performance
and Animations
