The
"Songs of Sorrow, Songs of Hope" performance
commerating the September 11, 2001 tragedy was conducted on November
29 at 9:00 p.m. in real-time at New York University and the University
of California, Irvine (see Background
Information).
At UCI, The Dance and Digital Arts Ensemble, with my direction,
explored new ways to work with state of the art technology. We sent
high-bandwidth audio and video back and forth using Internet 2.
Internet 2 allowed UC, Irvine and New York University to receive
sound and video at the same time. This transcontinental performance
was made possible by VBrick Systems’ television-quality video-over-IP
system which enables each venue to receive sound and video in real
time, allowing the performers on both coasts to interact in a structured
improvisational mix.
See
the performance web album and
animation web album for more
images and details about this project.
