Announcement: Donald McKayle Invited To Return

ANNOUNCEMENT: DONALD MCKAYLE INVITED TO RETURN

IRVINE, Calif. (January 8, 2016) - American dance legend Donald McKayle, who has received numerous arts awards and honors worldwide over his six-decade career, and who is a longtime member of the Claire Trevor School of the Arts’ nationally-renown Dance department, has been invited to continue his work as a choreographer and teacher with the Étude Ensemble, the UCI student group he formed in the School of the Arts and with which he has worked closely in recent years.

UCI has been honored and deeply privileged to have counted Donald McKayle among its most distinguished faculty. Though he officially retired in 2010, Donald has been welcomed back annually since then to choreograph and teach; he is currently preparing two pieces for the UCI Dance Visions concert at the Irvine Barclay Theatre in early February.

The Claire Trevor School of the Arts is delighted that, by arrangement with Enrique Lavernia, UCI Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, Donald will continue to choreograph and teach in the School of the Arts during the 2016-17 academic year. Donald’s remarkable commitment to his art, and to his work with students, has been a model for the campus and beyond. We are delighted at the prospect  that Donald McKayle will continue to be an integral part of the Claire Trevor School of the Arts’ creative family.
