tonic function

tonic function considers what success will look like for the individual while exploring themes of grit, identity and resilience. There is a multiplicity of tensions in the space to create a tonal environment while exploring multi-directionality in the movements. The name tonic function comes from the Spanish-French psychologist, Julian de Ajuriaguerra as a description for the ability of the body to organize itself, to support its own movement, through the negotiation of gravity. It serves as a reminder of how the body responds to moments of fear, anxiety or hesitation. The dancers are abandoned in an abstracted landscape, in which their interpretations of the space, who they are and what they see for their own futures are left to be discovered through their movement as well as their engagement with one another, however they see fit.

Intrinsically ( ____ )

Intrinsically ( ____ ) is a look into the authentic representation of genuine human character and scenarios of everyday life. This performance challenges the nature of our existence. The storyline follows characters as they develop an identity through experiences relatable to the personal lives of both the performers and audience members. Through the application of a multifaceted approach to creating movement paralleling the many lenses through which people receive and process artistic work, the choreography reaches multiple viewpoints and offers insight into why we are who we are.
