Performance

The UCI Dance Department is one of the largest and most comprehensive university dance programs in the United States. Our philosophy embraces dance in its many forms, offering multiple levels of ballet, modern dance, jazz, tap, Spanish dance, ballroom dance and a changing selection of world dance forms such as Indian (Bharata Natyam and Kathak), Tango, African, and Sri Lankan dance.

We provide exceptional performance opportunities for dance students. Each year the department presents four fully mounted, on-stage dance concerts: Dance Visions, choreographed by faculty and guest artists; New Slate and Dance Escape, choreographed by graduate students; and Physical Graffiti, created by undergraduate students. In addition, informal showings held every quarter are a great opportunity for our students to showcase new work to an audience of faculty and other students.

Several performance ensembles such as the Spanish Dance Ensemble, the Jazz Dance Ensemble, and the UCI Etude Ensemble offer unique areas of performance for our students. The UCI/Conservatoire de Paris International Exchange Program is another high profile opportunity that brings the students and faculty of both institutions together for performance in Irvine and in Paris.

The Claire Trevor School of the Arts produces an opera or musical theatre work every year, providing additional performance opportunities for dance students.
