Lisa Naugle and John Crawford Take Dance Students to Perform in Rome

Professor of Dance Lisa Naugle and Associate Professor of Dance John Crawford took six CTSA dance students to Italy last summer to participate in a collaborative project and performance in choreography, music, and video at the University of Rome. The dancers performed Professor Naugle’s new choreography at Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Roma (MARCO) and at the Conservatory S. Cecila of Rome. Professor Crawford and two of the students also stopped in New York to give a workshop in the Sonic Arts Program.

Molly Lynch Commissioned to Create New Work for Sacramento Ballet

Associate Professor of Dance Molly Lynch was commissioned to create a new work, “Passing,” for Sacramento Ballet’s Modern Masters Series. Lynch was also the Artistic Director for the 11th Annual National Choreographers Initiative, and was selected to present her choreography “Soaring” at the CORPS de Ballet International Conference in Pittsburg in June.

Chad Michael Hall’s Muliplex Dance Finished First Season

Assistant Professor of Dance Chad Michael Hall’s Multiplex Dance finished out its first season with two exciting projects: Interface: The Marriage Project, and Summerplex 2014. Interface was a two-week residency and choreographic commission made possible through a grant from the city of West Hollywood’s One City One Pride Arts Festival. The new work, called “I Do,” was created over the course of two weeks and featured members of the LGBTQ community dancing alongside MXD company dancers. Summerplex was the first annual summer intensive professional training program created and taught by Hall as Artistic Director of his new company.

Welcome to the 50th Anniversary of UC Irvine — and to the Claire Trevor School of the Arts’ 2014-15 season of exciting exhibitions, performances, and special events. Since its founding in 1965, the School of Fine Arts has been a unique and vibrant presence in the community, nationally, and internationally, building from strength to strength across these five decades.

To celebrate our Golden Anniversary, we’re re-introducing some of our most notable founding faculty members: Dr. Robert Cohen, Claire Trevor Professor of Drama (and still a central member of the Drama Department), Dance’s Eugene Loring, Music’s Professor Emeritus H. Colin Slim, and several founding Art Department faculty members and students who are now part of any Who’s Who of Southern California art. Beyond these tributes, this year we’re building on our enormously successful 2013-14 season, in which CTSA was named — from a field of fortyeight nominees — Coast Magazine’s Top Arts Organization in Orange County

New Slate 2019 at the Claire Trevor Theatre

Irvine, Calif., November 21, 2019 – The University of California, Irvine’s Department of Dance presents, New Slate, an annual dance production showcasing graduate student choreography, performing December 5-7 at the Claire Trevor Theatre. This production includes works by Graduate student choreographers Beverly Jane Bautista, Leandro Glory Damasco, Jr., Aliya Kerimujiang, Chanel Natasha Kostich, Carl Douglas Sanders, Jr., Marc Spaulding, Radhanath Thialan, Krystal Matsuyama-Tsai, and Brittany N. Woo. 

New Slate offers a variety of new dance works that showcase both Undergraduate and Graduate dancers, including dance styles such as Tap, Contemporary, and Modern/Hip-Hop fusion.  Artistic Director, Dr. Kelly Sharp, emphasizes that this performance “offers a broad spectrum of choreographic explorations,” allowing these graduate choreographers to exercise

Claire Trevor School of the Arts Announces the 2014-15 Season

The Claire Trevor School of the Arts (CTSA) at the University of California, Irvine is pleased to announce the entire lineup of performances, concerts, and special events taking place on campus during the 2014-15 season. Season subscriptions go on sale Sept. 2, 2014 followed by individual ticket sales on Sept. 15, 2014. 

Highlights of the season include promising new works from all four Departments (Art, Dance, Drama, Music), as well as from the Beall Center for Art + Technology.

The Galleries mount a major solo exhibition featuring the work of Ed Moses, one of the original faculty members in Studio Art and a cultural icon, who is best known for his experimental aesthetic.
